Why Do We Need The Foundation?
Every child should have access to the fundamental information, instruction and support needed to sustain health and wellbeing. The Cognercise Foundation provides these vital resources freely and without prejudice, empowering every child with the tools needed to achieve their metal, physical and social potential and live a meaningful, valued life.
According to the WHO, the global rise in Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) including mental illness have reached epidemic proportions, causing more long-term disability and death than all other causes combined. Despite historical efforts and the fact that most NCD’s are caused and exacerbated by poor lifestyle choices and can therefore be avoided,
preventable disease continues to exact “an enormous toll in terms of human suffering and inflicts serious damage to human development in both the social and economic realms.” – WHO (2017).
Even in ‘lucky countries’ like Australia, our national health statistics are frightening with one in four men and one in three women, struggling with mental health issues, almost 2 in 3 adults clinically overweight or obese and physical inactivity costing around $14 billion per year.
The WHO’s 2017 Executive Summary proclaims that “this state of affairs cannot continue. There is a pressing need to intervene. Unless serious action is taken, the burden of NCDs will reach levels that are beyond the capacity of all stakeholders to manage.”
It’s time for new approach. Daily behaviours need to change, and positive sustainable habits need to be forged. The Cognercise Foundation are positioning as a conduit between education, health and the community, creating a practical movement that will empower a generation beginning with our most precious resource; our children.
